Frequently Asked Questions

  • We do not accept insurance. However, we believe you should still have insurance for other services, i.e. specialists, emergency visits, hospitalizations, etc.

We do not accept Medicare, but we can care for patients who have Medicare starting in April 2024.

  • Yes! Everything that is done in a traditional primary care office can still be done at Birch Hill Health. Jenna would be considered an out-of-network provider but can place referrals to any specialist.

You would want to check with insurance to see which specialists are in-network for coverage.

  • We can order you X-rays, CT scans, MRIs, etc to be done at outside facilities. While this is not included in your membership fee, it is recommended to use supplemental insurance.

We are currently working to negotiate lower rates for members who have to pay out-of-pocket.

  • Yes, we have partnered with Quest to offer full laboratory testing. Jenna will obtain specimens then send them to Quest for processing. We offer discounted lab prices to help reduce the cost of bloodwork. You will be able to view all results in the patient portal.

We can also order labs to be done at other facilities of your choice.

  • There are a few options:

You can call or text us directly at 207-200-1338

You can email us directly at info@birchhillhealth.com

We can set up a ‘Meet and Greet’ appointment where you can check out the space and discuss services further.

  • Direct Primary Care (DPC) is a membership or subscription-based service. You pay the primary care provider (PCP) directly instead of going through insurance. It’s taking out the middleman. Insurance is not directing the care; the experienced provider is.

In the traditional fee-for-service system you use insurance, who may or may not pay the provider based on contracts the insurance has with the facility. Depending on a person or family’s deductible, a visit may or may not get covered fully. For most patients, every visit that is not an annual physical requires a co-pay. These costs can add up. It can also deter people from seeking the care they need.

With DPC there is complete price transparency, so you know what you are paying for. The monthly membership is a flat rate. You can see or speak to the PCP as much or as little as you need/want to without additional fees. There are no office visit charges or copays.

We still believe you should have insurance, as the American healthcare system is not set up to not have it, but if you do not have insurance, have high deductibles, or just don’t like the current system, DPC may be a great option for you.

  • Jenna Lizewski, DNP, FNP-C is a doctoral-prepared nurse practitioner who both owns and operates Birch Hill Health.

She is an accomplished one woman show - Jenna has been a nurse for 14 years, with the past 8 years in the nurse practitioner role. She has worked in a variety of settings including traditional private practice, workplace-based health, preoperative evaluation and hospital-based primary care.

Jenna loves being a PCP. She enjoys the relationships she makes with patients, caring for families, and providing health education in an easy to digest way.

  • Since Jenna does all the jobs, overhead to run the clinic is less. She does not need to hire a billing company, secretary, lab technician, medical assistant or nurse. She may need to hire a medical assistant or nurse when the practice grows, but this would not affect the cost to the patient.

There are also less patients in the practice than a PCP has at a traditional practice, allowing for more flexibility, time, and access to care.

Jenna negotiates with companies to offer low costs for medications and labs. While you can still use insurance at the pharmacy or laboratory, at Birch Hill Health we work with companies who offer wholesale pricing. For those who do not have insurance, have high deductibles, or simply want to pay less, we have affordable options.

  • Yes, but not until April 2024. There is a three-month period to wait once Jenna opts out of Medicare. She can still send prescriptions and order lab testing that you can get covered by Medicare, but she cannot charge Medicare directly for care.

You would pay the flat monthly membership rate for care at Birch Hill Health. Everything would apply to you just as it would to other Birch Hill Health patients. No copays, no cost for office visits, etc.

If you have a Medicare Advantage plan, please check to see if you need an in-network provider, as Jenna would be considered out-of-network.
